Daddy blogger review

After lots of great reviews on our twitter site from various Mommy bloggers, its great to get a dad's perspective. The following review was posted by Dad Logic
http://dadlogic.net/2010/08/02/beautiful-creatures-childrens-music/

When my son Matthew was born, we put an iHome radio in his room and loaded up the iPod with songs from a lullaby CD. Two years later, and a constant repeat cycle the entire time, we’ve racked up tens of thousands of plays for each of the songs and Matthew will probably have the songs stuck in his head for years to come.

Since we were on the lookout for something new, I was happy to stumble across theBeautiful Creatures collection of children’s songs. They not only had two collections of nighttime/lullaby songs, but there were also several kid friendly options that we could play during the day when Matthew is in the mood to dance, sing and just plain be a kid.
The Beautiful Lullabies album seemed to be Matthew’s favorite, especially the “African Lullabye” song, Track 1 on the album. The nice thing about the songs being on iTunes is that you can pick and choose individual tracks from the various albums, but they are inexpensive enough where it is easy to just grab the album, load up the iPod, and see what particular songs seems to strike your kid’s fancy.
We made it through two years of having the same album playing over and over on the iPod. Let’s see how long we can go with all these albums to choose from.

Power To The Hippo

What a month it’s turning out to be for Beautiful Creatures!

We are five shows into our run at Monte Casino and every audience so far has been up on their feet and hippo-dancing in the isles!!!Our cast and technical crew have been nothing short of amazing and if you’re reading this and haven’t seen the show yet, we still have two weeks of run left so book now on http://www.computicket.com/web/event/beautiful_creatures/140883274

Our director Paul Warrick Griffin has moulded a show that has delighted children and parents this last week at the Teatro at Monte Casino. We’ve never seen so many happy, smiling Beautiful Creatures fans!

“What’s been great about this run so far is that we’re seeing people in the audience we’ve never seen before” says Paul Choritz.”It’s always wonderful to see new Beautiful Creatures fans!”

Ed Jordan says, ” For me, watching this show come together has been such an incredible process and I’ve loved seeing musical director Louis Zurnamer take our songs into the theatrical realm. It’s such a good feeling to hear a cast of thirteen actors singing with such passion and power,”

Alan Glass is excited too.” It’s amazing to see our characters we created actually come to life. They are living breathing colorful and bright, and seeing kids react to them is inspiring for us.”

Beautiful Creatures runs at the Teatro at Monte Casino till the 4th of July.

Good meeting

Yesterday we had a really good meeting with the stage show creative team.
There have been a few `changes` implemented and it is interesting to see how this process works.
We have modified our approach to costumes a number of times and I think we are going to end up with something very FRESH and EXCITING.

Meeting with the Beautiful Creatures stage show team

Tomorrow we have a meeting scheduled re our upcoming show at the Teatro Montecasino with Hazel Feldman and her team, as well as by London-based director, Paul Warwick Griffin (He has also directed Jesus Christ Superstar, High School Musical in SA and China, Chess, Cats World Tour, and Evita) We'll keep you posted on developments.
It's been a long rainy easter week-end in Joburg, and the countdown to the FIFA world cup continues. This means that the countdown to our stage show ticks by as rapidly. I think we are down to about 60 something days!
Meanwhile Ed has been been tasked with organising the musical score for the Spud Movie hanging so he's been hanging out with the legendary John Cleese.

Great Expectations on ETV

I spent the morning as a guest on the parenting program Great Expectations at ETV with my daughter Sophie. The program was about creativity in children and it will air on the 26th of April @ 11:30. Sophie showed off her art, and I was the proud parent. We discussed a couple of issues relating to nurturing creativity in early childhood. One of the other guests Nicky Bush, co-author of 'Future proof your children' made some really interesting observations about how when our children grow up, up to 60% of the jobs that they may do have yet to be 'invented' She added that the best way to prepare your children for the future is to nurture their creatvie ability to that they will be able to adapt to our rapidly world. The conclusion of all this was that we should of course encourage our children and give them all the the support that they need to enhance their natural talent. This might not be art, music or dance, but by allowing them to be creative and explore both left and right brain activity, they will be better equipped as adults to solve problems in a creative way. So you will see that I have made todays entry a little more creative than usual with a couple of splashes of colour, just to prove that I was listening!

TV series and progress on our new book

We've been keeping busy at Beautiful Creatures working on our TV series bible and preparation for the stage show. We are getting to know all our characters a bit better and have discovered that Lorenzo the Luckies Lizard is actually a bit of a gossip and that Lucas loves to do vocal warm-ups and has aspirations of singing grandeur. Harry the Hadeda fancies himself as a bit of an ornithologist and loves to compare himself the the great Ibis's of ancient Egypt.

Meanwhile our illustrator Sandy Lightly has done some fantastic layouts for our next book. 'Imvubu the Hippo' due out in June to co-incide with the stage show at Montecasino. We are looking forward to seeing the colour version once she has applied her magic paint brush. So there is lots to keep us busy.

Costumes, set, script

Met today with Hazel and the crew to chat about costumes, and the logistics of carrying around a tall giraffe head on top of ones own. So we may have to go a slightly different route.

Will soon be casting the show and are aiming for about 14 characters. including Imvubu the happiest Hippo (of course) Mafutha the Elephant, Morris the Monkey, Roddy the Rhino, not to mention Harry the hungry Hadeda, Talullah the tortoise and a couple of Zebra. Follow the process on these links:

Blog Blog, twitter twiiter

Its Tuesday in the land of the Beautiful Creatures, and we have our first draft of the script in hand, thanks to Gina and Craig. Excellent, now all we need are costumes, sets, actors, musicians, PR etc. Looking forward to the casting session in a couple of weeks. We'll post all that info on facebook, twitter etc as well.

Spent some time today tweaking the poster with the help of  Kirsten at Apula, so we are getting there.

Paul and I popped into our illustrator Sandy Lightly's studio to take a look at the draft drawing of our next book. (book # 2 'Imvubu the Hippo') It looks great so far and Sandy will start painting, cos when it comes to book we do it the old fashioned way... real illustrations with lots of acrylic paint on board.

Can't wait to get going with all this!

Monday morning at the coffee shop

Monday morning at the coffee shop, before heading off for a power week at Beautiful Creatures. Today we will be taking a look at the draft script for the stage show, then onto a meeting with our illustrator Sandy Lightly to take a look at the first renditions of our second book ' Imvubu the Hippo'. Lots of meeting and plans around our stage show, costumes, set,  TV show development etc. Joburg is just starting to show the first signs of Autumn, with only about 80 something days before the world cup kick off, and of course the kick off of our Beautiful Creatures stage show at Montecasino's Teatro.

Playing with our social networking toys

Ok, so we've been really busy this week playing with our social networking toys. Here is the itunes link to Beautiful Creatures. http://bit.ly/9E1iuD
This one points to the USA site, so if you are somewhere else you may have to change territory, or just search Beautiful Creatures - Ed Jordan and Alan Glass. (If you just say Beautiful creatures it takes you to a heavy metal band.. thats not us!)

Paul has been tweeting furiously all week to let everyone know that we are now available in lots of territories (Not Oz yet, coming soon!) So if you would like to follow us on twitter the link is http://twitter.com/beauticreatures

So there is something for everyone, but if that's all a bit much to digest simply go to our website www.beautifulcreatures.co.za

Paul is all a twitter

Paul has discovered twitter. He tweets all day and he tweets all night. I'm sure any day now he is going to grow wings, maybe like a Hadeda! Between that and our local  Italian sandwich shop Super Sconto, we are not sure which he prefers. Meanwhile, Ed's been awol, he's busy doing the score for Spud The Movie! It stars, among others the legendary John Cleese. Apparently Ed has to make him sing! (How about I'm a lumberjack? or Always look on the bright side of life?) Meanwhile things are all chipper in the land of Beautiful Creatures and plans for the stage show are making progress. Today we briefed our creative agency about the poster, chatted to 'Toast' (Tony Feldman - Showtime Management, and son of Hazel) about a few things before he dashes of to London for a few days, and of course did a bit more tweeting. Now time for some well earned rest.

Beautiful Creatures Blog post # 1

Well here goes the first blog post from the Beautiful Creatures team. At this point I'm still talking to myself, but hopefully that will soon change. On this blog, you will get to share our ideas, thoughts and dreams for Beautiful Creatures. The three of us, Paul, Ed and  I will explore the great adventure that Beautiful Creatures has become. We're about 5 years old now, have 7 children's music albums and our first book. We have a stage show in development with Hazel and Tony Feldman, and are in the process of developing a TV series. We've had fantastic support from children and their parents who have given us such positive feedback with regard to our music and favourite characters. So we invite you to continue the journey with us, and welcome your thoughts.
Beautiful Creatures is inspired by our children, and we will continue to strive to create music, books and theater that will in-turn inspire all children.
